I have a problem with virtualcenter. I needed to reboot the server and now the virtualserver service refuses to start.
When I read the virtualcenter log file, I get the following;-
[2011-03-04 16:29:03.488 'App' 5608 error] ODBC error: (08S01) - [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure
[2011-03-04 16:29:03.488 'App' 5608 error] Failed to intialize VMware VirtualCenter. Shutting down...
If I test the connection under ODBC settings, I get exactly the same error [jpg attached]
has anyone seen this before?
Just in case anyone is wondering what the root cause is...
this problem was caused by a lack of Disk space on the Oracle Database server that is used by virtualcenter. The TNS packet writer error is due to the fact that the Database isn't ready (e.g. full, shutting down etc).
We cleared some space on the DB server, bounced it, then bounced the Virtualcenter server 15 minutes later. It then worked.
Are you running in archive mode? If so, you might want to look at controlling how long your retention policy is.
