Rescan for new disks indeed. If that's not working restart your vm see what happens.

The problem is not to add a disk and rescan from the ESX to see the new device. I need to create a new partition in widows XP named D and assign this partition to the new disk added.

explication: I click to VM setting add new virtual disk, after that i login to XP, open the disk management, i don't see the new virtual disk or the new partion D.

thank y.

Ah but it IS a new device to XP. Thus requiring that you rescan for new devices IN Windows like Troy said.
