Hello,

hostd.log contains a log of all actions taken by either the VIC connected to ESX or vCenter connected to ESX and other items like HA that run periodically. So parsing it will help determine the order of certain actions but it is not very easy to understand.

Hello,

Not really, hostd.log does not have a one line per message rule, there are often multiple lines for each message. I would 'do an action' while tailing hostd.log so you can see what it spits out.

Hello,

There is NO such document. You need to look at the contents of hostd.log as you do things in the VIC that way you can see 'start' and 'end' lines for each command. Best to do this when HA/DRS is NOT enabled, perhaps on a test box.

As Ed mentioned I don't think a document exists to describe what the hostd log entries are. I have not seen one.

In addition to what was mentioned already other type of messages you will see in hostd, are VMs starting and stopping, snapshot being added and deleted and vmotion activity among a lot of others.
