trail version sanmelody max virtual volume

I have got the qla2200F/66 HBa's working ok.

Except for sanmelody, i can't seen to create larger vitual volumes as 1000mb.

Is this a limitation?

It's really annoying

Short answer: no the limitation in san melody is not 1TB. I think it may be 2TB.

I have no issues and you shouldn't have a problem creating virtual volumes with datacore's san melody greater than 1000mb. If you use network managed volumes, nmv's, the default is 2TB so it is definitely not a limit of the datacore sw.

How are you trying to create the virtual volumes? Are you using the storage pools or just creating virtual volumes from the disk partitions.

You don't say which version of sanmelody you are using, however part of the license is a limitation on how much disk space it would serve up. This used to be specified as a "spindle count" but is actually mapped to disk space...

Each spindle in your license allows for up to 500GB in your virtual volume.

A Virtual Volume of...

100GB consumes 1 spindle

500GB consumes 1 spindle

550GB consumes 2 spindles

1.5TB consumes 3 spindles

SanMelody Lite licenses have a spindle count of 4, therefore if you were using this version and had already created a 750GB virtual volume you would only be permitted to create up to 1TB for the second.

I do have a trial version of sanmelody:

SANmelody2.0PSP2

I can create a storage pool, but cannot assign raw disk etc.

When i create a nvm of 2048mb and assign raw disk of 40gb i ge the error:

Failed to assign RAW disk.

Error: Out of Storage Limit License

@Conrad

I am creating virtual volumes from disk partitions.

Are these basic disk partitions? I don't think SanMelody supports dynamic partitions.

yes it are basic partitions.

I suspect it's a trail version license issue.

I am out of options. I verified the install multiple times

If you right-click the server entry on the mmc and select properties it will give details on your license, eg how many spindles used.

I see lun distribution is on byy default.

I connected the FC cables in cross mode.

When i create small virtual volumes and map them to the vmware host, i can use them.

Well I'm running iscsi and the disks for sanmelody (5 disks) haven't any partition created. As I wrote this is a trial too.
