sata luns for vm swap file location?

We have FC and SATA drives connected to our NetApp 3020's, with LUNs set out like this:

FC_LUN_01 - This contains the VM's C drive.

FC_LUN_01_page - This contains the VM's pagefile drive.

SATA_LUN01 - This contains the VM's C drive

SATA_LUN_01_page - This contains the VM's pagefile drive.

The FC LUNs are for VMs requiring higher disk i/o, all other VMs go on the SATA LUNs.

The page LUNs have NetApp snap switched off to save space.

We are still short of room on the FC disks, would it be a bad idea to set the Vitrual Machine Swapfile Location on each ESX host to a LUN made of SATA disks?

That would mean a VM could be running from a FC LUN for it's C and pagefile, while it's associated vswp file is on a SATA LUN?

Hello,

If you overcommit your memory and you use the vSwp then sata could be a way to go but consider it a huge performance impact. Swap to disk is slow to start with, going with sata would make it slower still. This will impact performance if you overcommit your memory and vSwp is necessary.
