recreate software iSCSI iqn ID

I am having a issue where somehow my iSCSI initiator name got changed from the standard iqn-......<hostname>.... to just the hostname. Because of this, my Dell MD3000is is rejecting the connection because of the invalid iqn string.

How can I recreate this? I've tried disabling iSCSI and renabling it, rebooting etc and nothing seems to set the Initiator name back to the default.

Any ideas on how I can fix this without reinstalling from scratch?

Thanks!

Aloha - Go to /etc/initiatorname.vmkiscsi and change the name to what is expected. You will then need to reboot the host.

Thanks for the reply. What does the exact string need to be? There is a random(?) ID at the end.. where do I get/generate that?

From a working system :

iqn.1998-01.com.vmware:-461582fc

Aloha Brian,

The string needs to match whatever IQN the SAN Management software uses to point to that particular host.
