rdate says: Connection refused

In order to get the time from a Solaris server we have installed rdate under ESX 3.0.1 but

1. rdate -s Solaris-Server

tells us

rdate: could'nt connect to host Solaris-Server: Connection refused

All other systems in our lab running Solaris, Suse are getting the time via this rdate command.

The firewall service is off and the time service is on.

just NTP. If your firewall is off, it should work. Using a server against another server to synch time is a bad idea anyway, you should get the source, not daisy chain time/date functions.

Besides, rdate is an older protocol NTP is a universal command works better.
