problem installing gues tools in vm client

I've just installed the guest tools on a vm running centos 5.3, and the machine is running like the tools would have not been installed. I have to press ctrl+alt to get mouse back, and the mouse runs very slow. I have ran update on the guest and tried to reinstall tools, but I get tools alread installed. How can I fix this?

Can you tell me which is the update version or build version of esx 3.5 that you are using?i see that currently centos 5.3 is supported only in esx 3.5 U4 .Also check out this link and see if you did everything while installing the vmware tools on the linux vm.http://ict-freak.nl/2009/10/03/how-to-install-vmware-tools-on-centos-5-3/
