poor iscsi performance

hi

we have configured iscsi software init. in vmware esx 3.5 . we have multiple iscsi target on emc nc40. we have received lots of dropped packet at ip storage ,iscsi performance is poor.

does any one ny idea ?

vswitch nic team configuration

load balancing : route based on ip hash

network failover detection : beacon probing

notify switch : yes

failback :no

ps.: we have four nic (gb)

What kind of switches? If you have an etherchannel set up on the switch, this looks good. If you do not, try setting the load balancing to Port ID. Do you see this same issue if you bring it down to 1 physical NIC?

If you have dropped packets showing up you may want to isolate each NIC and see if this is a physical problem with one of your ESX NIC's. Start by only using one of the NIC's on the iSCSI switch, check for dropped packets and peformance, if that NIC is fine then move on to the next NIC, etc. If there is one bad NIC in your 4 NIC switch you could see poor performance any time packets are sent to that NIC. Eliminate the bad NIC and things should start working.

Are you using jumbo frames? If so a faulty configuration could cause poor performance and dropped packets.

we have configured etherchannel on switch , also we use vss .

does beacon probing cause a problem ?

It shouldn't. Try Jeff's suggestion. Reduce it to a single NIC. Try each of the NIC's individually. Perhaps one is bad.
