Hi,
I search any detailled informations, documentations about lock file vmfs mechanism for ESX 3.X
How, where, who .... works the lock file mechanism.
Is it possible to manage manually this lock ?
Thanks
Hello,
Remember there is no 'lockfile' it is a lock within the file system or the LUN. If you are replicating a SAN LUN then you will get the status as of the time of replication and no other time.So yes, things could be a tad out of sync after the replication.

Hello,
How, where, who .... works the lock file mechanism.
It is managed by the vmkernel/VMFS drivers within the metadata of the datastore.
Is it possible to manage manually this lock ?
Not really as there is no 'lock' file per say.

Why do you need to manage the lock??
/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmkload_app /usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-vmx should have a lock on the VMs file.
Here is how to release a lock on a file, butim not sure much further than that on lock files im afraid.

Hello,
Thanks for your good information.
It's a special case for our SAN structure and VMware HA intersite cluster with replication LUN vmfs.
It is possible under certain conditions that we have need to work with the secondary volume vmfs replicated and it's possible that this Mirored volume has not the last information, modification as par exemple "lock file" on the VM.vmx
Thanks.
