licensing

In vcenter20 it shows I have 5 remaining ESX Server Starter licenses. When I try to use them for an esx host server version 3.1 it states I do not have enough licenses. Any thoughts?

No it will not since the server does not meet the qualifications of a Starter license.

Try restarting the license server and VC services, also see these posts...

I tried those solutions to no avail. Her is one of the entries in my host license file.

You should not post license info in these public forums since they are your private license keys.

Check this doc, about halfway into it has some good license server troubleshooting tips...

Sorry about the lic info. still have the problem. I also put the license file from a cut and paste into the VMware llicense checker on the VMware site and it came back valid.

Check both the VC and License server log files for any errors.

esiebert7625 - good catch

GMaze, you mention your host license file.

Are you using a flexlm (server) or host based licensing? If you have Virtual Center you should be using server based licensing for all servers.

I should be able to use the ESX Server Starter license I guess. I have several other ESX host servers using ESX Server standard. These are all used up thats why I was trying to use the starter.

Does the ESX server you are trying to have use this license meet the Starter qualifications? ie. 8GB of memory or less.

I think you may have answered my problem. I do have more than 8 gig of memory in the server. I thought it would still except it and only recognize up to the 8 gig. So if I have more that 8 gig in the server it will not issue the license?
