guys, here is my predicament:
i presented 2 luns to my hosts: 1 common and the other for iso storage.
i have transferred the ISOs to the iso datastore
i created a vm on the common datastore
then when i was trying out vmotion, it fails and had to troubleshoot. i ended up deleting the ISOs and the VM (dumb move i know but i was isolating).
now i was uploading another set of ISOs on the ISO datastore but i get an error saying the folder already exist. browsing the data store using the datastore browser on the storage tab, i see no folder! how the heck to i make sure i deleted the previous ISOs? how do i access those other than through the datastore browser?
then i destriyed the virtual disk of both VM datastore and ISO datastore on the EMC box. now i can't detect the new LUNs. how as the host appears to detect the old ones. how to i remove the old LUNs on the host and have it see the newly created LUNs?
how can i set it to have the newly created VMs on the datastore be kept on a folder by it's name?
can you guys also point me to a best practice article on managing the datastore and keeping VMs on the datastore.
help greatly appreciated. :smileyshocked:

Using Service Console:
cd /vmfs/volume/YourIsoDatatostoreName
ls

winscp works for accessing the host, i managed to get that far but is that gonna allow me to access the datastore on the emc box?
the ISOs i wanna take out are at the EMC box an not the host.
are the datastores connected to the host listed here?
if i delete those are they gonna disappear from the listed storage?
Logon to the Clairrion via Navisphere (http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.is the IP of one of your storage procesors) You than can remove the LUN that held the ISOs from the Storage group and then delete the LUN from the RAID group. then just recreate and add back to SG. Rscan and ESX should see new LUN which you then would format.
You might want to engage your SAN enrg if you have one.

Changing iSCSI connections quite often require that you restart your host.
yep i did delete the lun from the emc box already and i've rebooted the hosts too.
that's why i find this a weird scenario. i know that when the lun is gone and i've rebooted and rescan the datastore shouldn't even be there.
it's there by name but no longer accessible anyway.
excellent link btw.
i'll try those when i get in Monday. hehe :smileycool:
