You should not install any antivirus software on ESX, install it on each VM running on ESX, but not ESX itself

Companies will sometimes mandate an antivirus on any running operating system, there might not be away around this. This is what happend with our enviroment, and now we have 15 or so hosts running in Test and Production with ClamAV installed.

Havent seen any issues with it.

Cheers,

Neel

Don't want to be rude, but it seems that quality of this "security team" is under the question.

When you work for an organization like Education it isnt a Security team that places those mandates. Its directors, managers, and trustees. And getting anything changed is almost impossible.

There is workaround - install ESXi on flash disks instead of ESX.
