iSCSI problems at boot after upgrading to 3.0.2

After upgrading 3 Dell 6850 servers to 3.0.2 from 3.0.1, we have problems with iSCSI on 2 of them:

  • systems take a long time to boot

  • then they don't connect to iSCSI storage

  • LUNs became visible after a simple "rescan" on vmhba40 iSCSI adapter

Looking at vmkernel log, it seems a timeout issue during startup.

All was working well with 3.0.1.

An additional note: both affected servers have A05 BIOS version, unaffected one has A04.

AN IMPORTANT UPDATE: it works removing all adapters but one from vSwitch!

Peraphs, update to 3.0.2 introduced a problem with network load balancing and iSCSI.

I have the same problem.

Recently dual-connected Dell PowerEdge 1950 running 3.0.2

8 node cluster, 2 nodes don't have iSCSI LUNs after reboot. Do a rescan and they are there.

I also have 6850's but those are connected via FC over HBA.

Do you have standby vmnic in iSCSI vSwitch?

It seems that removing stanby NICs is a workaround. Unfortunately, VMWare support was unable to really assist me and call was closed without a real investigation Smiley Sad

I'm pretty sure that it will be recognized as a bug in the next future!
