iSCSI against - Promise VTrak M500i

Hei

Evaluating ESX Server with iSCSI software initiator against Promise VTrak M500i SAN. Got it to work but can't find Promise at any compatibility lists from VMware.

Is it reliable? Is there any tests I can do to make my decision easier ?

I have a customer that is using it. It seems to work well, reliability was good, but it did seem a little slow. But their network was not configured ideally, so I'm sure that added to the performance (or lack there of.)

The one thing that I had problems with was that with 4 hosts connected to it, and each host being presented all of the LUNs, every time we wanted to work on the Promise (like adding disks, creating new LUns,etc..), it seemed that if we didn't stop the hosts from accessing the disks, the Promise would lock up.-- Only a cold restart would fix this..

Good Luck

OK - thanks for your answer...

We'll try it for production.

Been using it a few weeks with one ESXi 3.5 instance only but with multiple VMs.. .. Been working alright.. Doesn't appear slow.. Just now moving multiple ESXi boxen onto the iSCSI array...

Did notice some of the horrible 'interface up/down' in the promise m500i event log a time or two, which is a fairly severe error in the promise array..

Do we have any other users of Promise arrays here? I also have a VTrack 15100 SCSI attached array that I plan on using with ESXi .. Any users on the Promise SCSI array platform?

Any updates with the 15100 or 15200 products from PROMISE? I have both of these and am curious!
