how to generate IO for vmfs volumes created using BLOCK size 4MB or 8MB

I have associated vmdk to a VM , created from datastores configured with block size 4MB and another datastore with block size 8MB.

how to generate huge IO on vmdks, so as to make use of this configuration of block size 4MB or 8MB

Take a look at this thread regarding using IOMeter - http://communities.vmware.com/thread/73745. There's a configuration file (icf) that you can get from the first post to ensure that your setup for IOMeter to consistant with what others are using.

If you're trying to decide on block size for vmfs, and you're not sure how big of a block size to use, then good practice is to use smallest block size to encompass your vm's. An 8 MB block size will permit a 2 TB vmdk, where as the the 4 MB will permit a 1 TB vmdk. Do you need disk sizes to be this large, or are you just trying to quantize the performance difference?

Thank you all for posting the replies.

I think Dave's thread link using IO meter may be helpful.

The idea is the run IO with different block sizes on vmdk created from datastores of different block size.
