hostd problem on one of my nodes

Jump to solution

i have an ESX 3.5 node that seems to not be very well! I cannot vmotion any vms off of it due to the process timing out. It seems that there is no guest OS heartbeats. Also no statistics are being reported back to Virtualcenter for either the node orthe guests on the node. Looking in the hostd.log reveals the following:

2008-04-16 23:29:06.675 'Memory checker' 128342960 error Current value 204812 exceeds hard limit 204800. Shutting down process.

I can't seem to find a working hostd process on the server.

Is there anything i can do to restart the hostd? Because i cannot vmotion the guests off, i dont really want to have to power them down in order to reboot the node. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

regards

I believe the command service mgmt-vmware restart will restart hostd service

This is correct. And its also non-intrusive to your VMs running on that ESX host, so you don't get any downtime or outages.
