esxtop metrics

Hi all

Does esxtop (using the disk view) report on the actual hba utilization in a multiple hba configuration or does it only report on the SCSI target utilization?

*see attached screenshot

Although I have set up fixed paths via multiple hba's to my storage via VC (see it as manual load balancing), only vmhba1 is reporting utilization (vmhba0 is the esx boot drives). All the LUNS are enumerated as SCSI target 0 on vbmhba1.

Thanks

I have the exact same issue, I have a dual-port HBA giving me vmhba1 and vmhba2 (vmhba0 is the local scsi array). I have 14 LUNs presented to the server, 7 of which are preferring paths through vmhba1 and the other 7 prefer paths through vmhba2. All are active on the preferred path, but I only EVER see ANY traffic on vmhba1. Even if I failover all paths to vmhba2, I still only see traffic on vmhba1.

Also, the output of esxcfg-rescan makes it look like nothing is presented to vmhba2, even though that is not the case:

# esxcfg-rescan vmhba1

Rescanning vmhba1...done.

On scsi0, removing: 0:0 2:10 2:11 2:12 2:13 2:14 2:15 2:16 2:17 2:18 2:19 2:20 2:21 2:22 2:23 2:24.

On scsi0, adding: 0:0 2:10 2:11 2:12 2:13 2:14 2:15 2:16 2:17 2:18 2:19 2:20 2:21 2:22 2:23 2:24.

# esxcfg-rescan vmhba2

Rescanning vmhba2...done.

On scsi1, removing:.

On scsi1, adding:.

does the performance tab not work? I can see utilization on ALL my VMFS attached SAN storage, and each HBA.

So maybe you can't see it from console, but this is what the performance tab provides....

The performance tab shows the performance of each LUN but not each HBA. I see the 14 LUNs by their name & target (vmhba1:2:10 for example) and their respective performance data. But esxtop does not show activity on vmhba2 where I would expect that it would for the LUNs that are set to prefer paths over it.
