esx gpm service

hello,

I found this information from the /etc/rc3.d/85gpm file :

" GPM adds mouse support to text-based Linux applications such \

1. the Midnight Commander. Is also allows mouse-based console \

2. cut-and-paste operations, and includes support for pop-up \

3. menus on the console."

Could you give more details about this service, when talking about console, are we talking about the ESX Service Console ?

I would assume it is referring to a linux console - so by extension to ESX yes it would be the service console - but you do not want any thing unecessary running in the service console so I would not install GPM -

The service was started on our ESX servers 3.5. Security team want me to stop this service so that is why I wanted to know the impact on our servers.
