esx CLI commands + placing server into maintenance mode

excuse me if it's been asked before, Ive tried doing a quick search.

I'm coming over from BSD, and im not 100% familiar with linux config files and placement. Where can I find some kinda of documentation on specific commands that can be used on the ESX hosts?

second, can an ESX host be placed into maintenance mode via the CLI ?
