just finished patching 3 servers, everything went fine.
my last box gave me the following error. Not sure what to do. I've reboot the host and ran it again, same issue.
any ideas?

Patch ESX-1917602 failed to install.
I'm having the same issue with this patch. It's done it to me twice now on two separate boxes.
Just did something a little different and it worked fine this time. I ran the first patch for that month, ESX-1271657, then rebooted. Then, I ran the problem patch it and worked fine.
Esxupdate is trying to create a tarball backup of everything in /etc/vmware, before every patch that it installs. Sometimes the previous backup hasn't completed before the next patch cycle begins, causing errors like this. Run esxupdate with the --nobackup flag. I had this same error and VMWare recommended this option. They said the tarball backup will be taken out of a future release of esxupdate.
