error running esx-autopatch

just finished patching 3 servers, everything went fine.

my last box gave me the following error. Not sure what to do. I've reboot the host and ran it again, same issue.

any ideas?

tar: /etc/vmware/esx.conf.READLOCK: Cannot stat: No such file or directory

tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Patch ESX-1917602 failed to install.

I'm having the same issue with this patch. It's done it to me twice now on two separate boxes.

Just did something a little different and it worked fine this time. I ran the first patch for that month, ESX-1271657, then rebooted. Then, I ran the problem patch it and worked fine.

Esxupdate is trying to create a tarball backup of everything in /etc/vmware, before every patch that it installs. Sometimes the previous backup hasn't completed before the next patch cycle begins, causing errors like this. Run esxupdate with the --nobackup flag. I had this same error and VMWare recommended this option. They said the tarball backup will be taken out of a future release of esxupdate.
