I use Veritas 2010 with vmware agent.

When i run a backup to my VM machine (Windows 2003 R2 64Bits with MS Exchange server 2007 Installed) the job fails with this error:

"creating a quiesced snapshot failed because (user-supplied) custom pre-freeze script in the virtual machine exited with a non-zero return code"

In the Vcenter i have the same erorr

What can i do to solve the problem ?

Is Microsoft VSS running and enabled for the partitions in the guest?

Which script is triggered and comes back with a non-zero return code?

Can you edit the script and create a file with the exit code?

To quiesce the filesstem VSS is needed.

1. Enable the Volume Shadow Copy service and start it

2. Open the Disk Management, right click the partition and go to "Shadow Copies"

3. Enable it for all partitions.

I'm getting the same error if I try to backup via vDR or just create a snapshot of a VM.
