we have 4 ESX hosts, with a virtual switch/port group dedicated for virtual machines, planning on trunking the physical ports the hosts are connected to, and setting up vlan tagging on the existing and a new port group (will be servicing VMs on a different subnet).
this will be done on a host by host basis, will enabling the vlan tag on the existing virtual switch, and trunking on the physical switch port likely to impact vmotion from/to other hosts?
Things you need to consider:
1.) Make sure all all vlans are tagged to all hosts
2.) Make sure all PortGroup names are identical
There is a pretty good tool for creating PortGroups on Multiple Servers at www.run-virtual.com. It allows to create the same PortGroup on as many servers as you like without worrying about if you typoed the name.
