downloading vmdk file

Hi, when I try to download vmdk files from datastore to physical server it download smaller files without problems.

But for larger files (over 5GB) it always report "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.".

I have tried on several servers but always same problem.

You have a few choices.

If the VMs are shut down during the file copy, then you should use a (free) third party utility, like Veeam FastSCP or WinSCP or even Putty PSCP. If the VMs are turned ON during the copy, consider VMware Consolidated Backup -> http://viops.vmware.com/home/docs/DOC-1392

During default ESX installation, Service Console will be allocated 272MB of memory. Most of time, it is sufficient. Service Console, you might want to increase to more than 512MB.

We need to report what is the value. Please you see the file attach "memory.jpg"

Here is how to change the Server Console’s memory, and it needs a reboot to take in effect.

Regards.

272MB is allocated, I guess as you said it is by default.

I will increase it to at least 512MB, but I am out of office until monday, then I will try and give you info.

Thanks to all .

Where are you trying to download them to? Remember, that FAT32 has a filesize limit of 4 GB. You can't hold files larger than that on a FAT32 filesystem. If you are using FAT32, then you can use converter to download the vm image, and make sure you check the option to split the disk into 2 GB chunks.

I tried with WinSCP but I can not copy or even change permissions on that files since access is denied.

I can not connect to hosts with root user but I can with other user we created during ESX installation.

You should use the non-root user to authenticate with WinSCP. It will give you read access to the VMFS. If you need read/write access, you may want to look at Veeam FastSCP. It allows you to set the user and root credentials.

It depends on the version of ESX. The actual .vmdk file is a link to the flat monlithic disk file. 300MB sounds a little large for this file. Maybe 300k.
