I know I haven't tested this, but in my head I don't see why it shouldn't work. I would strongly consider doing this on a box that you don't care about first, uninstall vmtools, vmotion it back to a 3.0.2 box then re-install the vmtools on the 3.0.2 box and see how it runs. Again I haven't tested this so I can't tell you for sure but something worth testing.
