This is normal. VM Ware server by default is set to grow files until they reach a limit. ESX (for performance reasons) sets the file size to the maximum size up front, so the files don't grow over time.
You don't want files growing in ESX, this defeats the purpose and will kill your performance. You can set converter to resize the file, and set your maximum accordingly, but 10G is a good size to start with.
