console error resignaturing

Hi,

I have found this morning this error message on the welcome screen of the console on one esx host:

LVM 4941 : vmhba1:0:1:1 may be snapshot disabling access

See resignaturing section in SAN conf guide.

Which says

VMFS Volume Resignaturing

VMFS volume resignaturing allows you to make a hardware snapshot of a VMFS

volume and access that snapshot from an ESX Server system. It involves resignaturing

the volume UUID and creating a new volume label. You can control resignaturing as

follows:

! Use the LVM.EnableResignature option to turn auto‐resignaturing on or off

(default is off).

! As a rule, a LUN should appear with the same LUN ID to all hosts that access the

LUN. Under certain circumstances, you need to change this behavior using the

LVM.DisallowSnapshotLUN option.

I wont use hardware snapshot of VMFS volume, should i Use the LVM.EnableResignature option to turn auto‐resignaturing on anyway?

This will happen if the ESX servers in the cluster do not have matching LUN IDs set for each VMFS LUN. You should check that first.

I am confused, where can i find the LUN IDs in ESX? Is that the Voulme Label?

No, when talking about LUN IDs, in most cases, the SCSI LUN address[/b] is meant.

E.g. vmhba1:2:3 -- this is LUN address 3 on target 2.

I have looked in the Configuration menu to Storage Adapters.

All luns have the same ID, on the three ESX hosts. So why do i get this message?

Hi,

have you moved the LUN on your storage system ?

This could change your LUN ID of your LUN.

It will then show this new LUN ID to all your ESX servers, but ESX doesn't like it that the LUN ID's change.

Regards,

Bart
