connect SAN to ESX 3.5 server

I am trying to connect my ESX 3.5 server to my HP MSA 2012 fc SAN.

In the HP StorageWorks MSA Storage Management Utility, the following is setup:

1. The internel host port interconnect is set to straight-through.

2. The controller A/B host port configuration topology is set to LOOP.

3. In Volume Management > Manage Host List, I have added the Host WWN and Nickname for the ESX 3.5 server, but nothing comes up for the Controller.

What am I missing? What else do I need to do for this server to see the drives on the SAN? Any help is very much appreciated!

Is there anything I have to do in the VMware Infrastructure Client for the server to see the SAN?

Hello,

Sometimes the Type of connection should be proper for ESX, on MSA1000 it had to be set to Linux.

Is there anything I have to do in the VMware Infrastructure Client for the server to see the SAN?

I would contact HP Support on this one. THere may be something subtle that is necessary. There is also a setup guide for the MSA 2K that should include how to set things up for ESX.

Did you rescan your hba's after following your procedure from the storage adapters configuration?

Yes, I scanned the HBA's and it still did not see the SAN.

Have you checked to see whether you have the send/receive cables in wrong ports on HBA or SP.

This issue was resolved by moving the ESX server into the correct zoning on the switch. Thanks to everyone for your help!
