command to unpack hpmgmt-8.4.0-vmware3x.tgz

Hi,

I am trying to install HP SIM for my vmware environment. I have installed HP SIM on VC server and now trying to install SIM agent (hpmgmt-8.4.0-vmware3x.tgz) on my ESX 3.5 server. When I give the command "tar -zxvf hpmgmt-8.4.0-vmware3x.tgz", I am getting below error:

tar: This does not look like a tar archive
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

CAn someone please help me to get the correct command to execute this operation?

Also, it will be great is someone share step by step guide to install HP SIM 6.2 on for the ESX 3.5 setup.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Sanjay

Hello.

Did you verify the MD5 checksum for the download?  Sounds like the file might be corrupt.

Good Luck!

Hi,

I am not sure about the issue. I downloaded it through firefox and was getting the issue.

Next time, I downloaded the file from IE and I am not getting the previous error. ( It is not supported by the ESX version I am having.)

Not sure, what's wrong with the firefox.

Anyways, thanks for the help.

Regards,

Sanjay

That is the correct command to use to uncompress and extract a .tgz file.  Based on the errors it appears the file you are trying to extract is corrupted.  Try downloading it again.

Hope that Helps
