clone to template failing

I am trying to clone a centos 5.1 guest. It is failing with few details about why it failed. Where should I start to debug this?

For starters, ensure that the ESX host is pingable by IP, FQDN, and short name from both the ESX host itself, and the VirtualCenter server

I just tried a plain clone and it did the same thing. It is giving a "failed to connect to host" error.

It is on the same subnet and the hostnames of both ESX servers are resolvable, FQDN and hostname.

I had the same problem after changing the subnet for VC and ESX servers. Pinging IP, FQDN an VMkernel IP did work fine.

In VC C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\Logs\vpxd-?.log is something like "... IP address change for x.x.x.x to y.y.y.y not handled ... ".

After removing and adding all ESX servers the problem was gone.
