cannot upgrade esx 3.0.2 to 3.5 due to disk space

hello, I just need some ideas about where to look to free up disk space to perform an upgrade on my hosts. right now I have a host that when I run df -h I get the root directory '/' is 93% full. the next server is only 87% full. all of these servers used default install and nothing additional was added to any of them. I can only assume some sort of log file is taking up the space. I have already searched for iso images and other such files and none exist. can someone tell me what is taking up the space or where the most likely place is to look?

You list percentages, but how much disk is actually left? Post the output of 'vdf -h'. This will include your datastores as well as your regular filesystems.

Ok, here is what I found. It appears that my understanding of linux

partitioning has been lacking. When I ran df and found /var/log under a

different device, I assumed it was all of /var. turns out its only the

/var/log directory that's on a different device. So I quickly went to

my /var/updates directory and found all kinds of stuff that needed

deleted. My issue is resolved thanks.

Just put the ESX 3.5 disk in the drive, boot. Install as NEW. Keep existing VMFS partitions, and reinstall NEW. That's the recommended method anyway. You can install 10 minutes, and reconfigure the server in 10 minutes, in less than a half hour your server will be just like you left it.
