building ESX 3.0.1 test server

I'm getting readt to build myself a new test server. I will be going with an intel core2duo chip and a intel board. I want the box to be able to run ESX 3.0.1 what do I need in order to accomplish this I'm heard all I need to do is use an adaptec 19160 or supported scsi controller or even a sata controller that presents itself as scsi. From what I've gathered I will install esx on the scsi drive and than I can use sata to use for vmfs for my vms. So ou guys out there thats built esx 3.0.1 test labs what type of hardware did you use?

I normally find the crappiest HP supported hardware I can find, its just too hard to get around the vmware HCL.
