Would it be a problem if there are too many VMFS volume in a RAID Group ?

We are going to upgrade our EMC SAN. In the existing SAN, we are using a number of 73GB HD. Since we have limited budget, we plan to use a single DAE with all 300GB HD. In this way, we can only create 2 RAID Groups.

As we have more RAID Groups before, we have to move a number of LUNs (i.e. VMFS volumes) to the two RAID Groups. We would like to know is there any downside from VMWare points of view ?

Thanks

It depends on your application I/O. Monitor queue length in ESX and also in storage. If you believe there is bottle neck in disk I/O, move your datastores to different raid group. Remember each raid group has only single I/O queue for all LUNs in the raid group which means if one LUN is really busy, it can affect performance of other LUNs in same raid group.
