Windows Server 2008 R2 broken? Is it possible that Microsoft did something so it won't run on Vmware?

Has anyone installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on a VM? Mine keeps locking up for no apparent reason. Just trying to do simple things like change permissions on a folder or shut off auto-update. I can't even get task manager to come up.

Is it possible that Microsoft did something so it won't run on Vmware?

W2K8R2 is currently only experimental support for for ESX4, but is not on any type of supported list for VI3. This may be part of the problem

I've seen mixed results with people running R2 on ESX. Some have said it runs fine, others have said they get strange lockups and performance problems. I've seen others say that uninstalling VMware Tools from the VM has cleared up a number of issues for them. Perhaps give that a try?

Either way, I would wait until it is officially supported on ESX before rolling out in production.
