Try "which telnet".
It should come back with something like this: /usr/kerberos/bin/telnet

True in esx 4.0, but not in esx3.5, any other idea?
As "which" is a standard Linux command it works also in 3.5. If you get back nothing, there's no telnet.

Yes the command which works in esx 3.5 but the result "/usr/kerberos/bin/telnet" is only on esx 4.0.
I get this on esx 3.5
/usr/bin/which: no telnet in (/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin...
Thanks Kasraeian but this link is about telnet server, not telnet client
I just want to do a simple telnet from an esx 3.5 to check connectivity with vcenter, it seems impossible.
As I never used telnet on 3.5 and I have no 3.5 at hand, I can't tell you if there is a telnet client available.
Last chance is find / -name "telnet*"
If nothing is found, there's simply no telnet client installed.
Is ssh not an option?
