I am posting because today I encountered a rare instance when I had a problem that I could not find the solution to in the VMware Community forum.
I had a VM with a snapshot, and when I attempted to delete the snapshot, I ran into problems. The snapshot deletion itself timed out (which is not uncommon), the issue was that eventually when the snapshot appeared to be gone, one of the snapshot delta .vmdk files still existed and was still in use. Because this snapshot was of an RDM, (and because I did not want to power the server off), I did not want to follow instrtuctions I found to clone the disk to a new .vmdk file (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1007849). After contacting support, I found the solution was actually quite simple. After verifying that the snapshot delta file was in use, all I had to do was create a new snapshot, and then select "Delete All" from the snapshot manager. I was also directed to a KB article that gave instructions to do it from the service console: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100231....
