3 esx hosts with ESX 3.5U3

I have an existing LUN which currently has VM's installed and running on that LUN. I want to add this LUN to the new ESX host.
On this new host, I went into the Storage Adapters and clicked "Rescan". The message shows me the LUN will be formatted. Then, I stop configuring.
I report to vmware support center, i've been told the LUN partition error and it can be fixed.
Anyone can tell me the reason, what cause LUN information loss?
