What's the best way to copy vm from one Esx to another without shared storage - e.g. San

Hello,

I'm trying to copy a virtual machine from one Esx to another Esx over the network. We don't have shared storage such as a SAN. The problem is I don't know Linux command, so I tried copying guest vm using Winscp. The problem is Winscp does something to the vmdk flat file by appending an extension, and I can't change that extension with Winscp. Am I doing something incorrectly.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can do it with Virtual Centre if you have it?

Pardon my ignorance, Bruce.

I can move vm from Esx host to host if managed by VC even though I don't have shared storage such as SAN or ISCSI?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can - you would have to cold migrate the VM when it is powered off - this will allow you to move the vm to the new host and switch datastores -
