WARNING: 01/18/2008 11:16:44 - (Vmware) Unable to query machine.id -- Windows VM Event Logs

I am receiving this every 3 minutes in the windows event logs of 2 virtual machines. Any idea what this means?

Both VMs are windows XP, one is running on a 3.5 host, the other a 3.0.2 host. vmtools up to date.

Are there any errors in /var/log/messages on the esx host or in the VC server logs?

Did you get this figured out? If not is there any other info that you can give? Is the vm acting up in any other way?

I also see the error "unable to query machine.id" as soon as I install the VMware VDM agent, VMware -vdmagent-e.x.p-336.exe, on a VM.

In the eventviewer's application record, I see the following:

Source Vmware

Category VMware VDM

User: NT Authority\System

Computer: RTPSOL352VM1

Description: Unable to query machine.id

I have also noticed that after installing the VDM agent, that the status of the VMware tools changes to "out of date". And the state cannot be changed even after updating the tools. As soon as I uninstall the agent, then it returns to a status OK.

I am running 3.5 ESX server.

Appreciate any advice/help with this issue.
