Vswitches and Service Console Disapear after reboot

We did a shutdown and power up test on our VM Host and when ESX loaded all of the network configureation was gone and we can no longer manage the ESX host.. I have been able to rebuild the Service Channel and get access to the host again but the networking cofiguration is gone. I have looked at the guest boxes and they still show all the network interfaces but they are no longer under configuration. Does anyone know what would cause this and how do I backup this info for recovery next time?

I just did a reboot and after reboot I logged in and got an alert saying "Configuration changes were not saved successfully during previous shutdown. Please file a problem report including output of vm-support." Could this be related to why all the network switches are gone?

Hi,

I have experianced this once. A message on shutdown indicated a failure to save the esx configuration. Then on startup the host was fubar. So yes this very likely the event that caused the nework definitions to disapear.
