Vmware solution for multiple sites that wants consistent hardware

Hi All:

like to get your opinions on what solution to make branch site fail over , will VMware site recovery manager do that ?

here is the situation, I have a site in TX thats the headquarter, and 20 others across the US on slow but stable MPLS connection, we are looking at a solution that can help us make sure keep each of the site running and data safe, in case one site is not accessible, other site can pick up of its tap, my question is will Vmware site recovery manage do that by itself or do we need some other backup or storage solution in place as well ?

our environment is all Windows, basically each sister sites consist of the basic setup: domain controller, a few file server, print server, database server manages their site data, currently using Oracle data replication to do the replication of databases, however other infrastructure servers might not be so lucky at this time

where do we start ?

Site Recovery Manager runs on SAN with replication, like Continuous Access from HP. Another license, another technology.

I think you may not have to replicate whole site, just critical data and applications. And replicate them on application level, like Oracle data replication you've mentioned. So there is no universal receipt, you have to deeply analyze your infrastructure.

I absolutely understand there is no one answer for everybody's environment because there is some many factors and difference

can you give me some of the example of good questions I should be asking the management (about the requirement) or what type of baseline information I can start to collect ?

just want to have a way so we can have our starting point if possible,

You should ask such questions:

1) What services should be able to restart on the other site in case of site failure? So here we identify what to replicate.

2) What is acceptable downtime for them? Here we identify how exactly should we replicate and how often.

3) Are there any geocluster solutions from software vendor?
