Vmware Update Manager Baseline best practices

Hello everyone,

I'm wondering what are the best practices for the baselines in the Update Manager. Meaning with the default baselines and the huge amount of updates (more than 3000 for the non-critical updates) is this impacting the virtual machine performances when scan are performed?

I'm wondering about the same thing about best practices for Baseline administration for ESX hosts.

I hav attached the Critical-Host upgrades baselinge to my ESX 3.5 upd1 cluster. When I do a scan the list of available patches doesn't containg the 3.5 update2 patch?

Why is this happening? When I attach the Non-Critial host baseline the scan shows that ESX 3.5 update2 needs to be installed.

Is Update2 not rated as a critical patch?

How are you guys administrating VUM baselines, do you apply both critical and non-critical updates or manually filter updates relevant to your environment?

Are there any issues with applying all available updates?

Hello,

I apply both critical and non-critical. Update 2 is non-critical as its not a security or must have patch. It is a choice on whether to go to Update 2 or not.

HI,

Well I have a similar problem. I desided to apply both critical and non-critical update to my cluster of 11 ESX 3.5 hosts and so far no problem.
