Vmotion OS time issue

I have Two ESX machine, each machine set to different time.

When I do a vmotion to a Windows 2003 from on ESX to the other the OS get the new ESX time and doesn't preseved the OS time.

I have vmware tools installed on the OS and I checked out the "Time synchronization ..." option.

It takes couple on minutes till the OS time sync via the domain controller.

Any way to fix that ?

The " time.synchronize.resume.disk = "FALSE" " did the trick.

Again

Thanks.

Set the ESX hosts to sync with an external time source.

Just out of curiousity...

If you are having machines vmotion, etc why are they on different time zones/settings.

I would actually have expected that to cause problems with syncronization and reporting,etc...

Even if timesync is turned off in the VMware client tools, there are still operations that cause the guest time to be sync'd with the ESX host.

  • Suspend and resume

  • Snapshot and revert to snapshot

  • Disk shrink

  • vMotion

Have a look at at page 16 on how to disable all synchronization for a guest.
