Hi ,
when we first installed the ESX 3.x servers we used the console NIC also for Vmotion connectivity because we had no enough nics .
Now we 've received a new nic for each server and wanted to add them for vmotion .
The question are :
- can we simply add the NICs ( with respective IP ) and configure them for vmotion , without removing such function from the one already configured ? Can this work out as fault tolerant configuration ?
- would be better to add the new NIC to the vswitch which the current vmotion NIC connect to , or create a new vswitch ?
thanks
I would create a team of both physical NICs at the vSwitch level (only one vSwitch needed). Then, I would configure the Service Console port group to use active NIC 1, standby NIC 2, and VMotion port group to use active NIC 2, standby NIC 1. Gives you failover and also dedicated bandwidth for each port group.

Pauls recommended config is also the VMware suggested best practise and the way i would do it..
Can I do it "live"
thanks
Yes, just don't start a VMotion beforehand!

Done as suggested without problems
