Hi,
Plateform is HP ML370 G5 with last firmware / ESX 3.5 with last patch. Host A is running LP10000 (2 gbit/s) with last firmware / Host B is running LPe11000 (4 gbit/s) with last firmware. SAN is Cisco MDS9222i / Storage HDS USP/VM.
We noticed a well know IO intensive VM running performing poorly on Host B running 2Gbit/s HBA (10000 KBps instead of 100000 KBps...). This VM was running before on Host A with normal performance (100000 KBps), we have just Vmotion it on Host B when we noticed the problem.
We did then following action :
Vmotion VM back to Host A running 4Gbit/s HBA : same problem
Vmotion VM to move back to Host B : ok, performance are here : 100000 KBps
We reproduce many time this problem, is it a SAN problem ?, a storage problem ?.
Is it supported to Vmotion a VM between host with one running a 2gbit/s card and the other a 4gbit/s card ?
Any idea about this problem ?
Thanks.
Hello,
There are a lot of possible's.
Can you post the following.
output of /var/log/vmkwarning
output of esxcfg-info -n
output of esxcfg-mpath -l
also run esxtop -b > esxtop.csv for 30 seconds and post the csv file it creates.
Maybe one of your uplinks of the storage array ist bad. Since the hds is active/active a change in pathing can occure if vm is vmotioned.
Just one of many possible guess's.
