Virtual server network adapter not working properly

I have just created a new virtual server using VI3. The server is working fine but everytime i shut down the server and switch it back on again, the netwrok adapter stops working, could not be ping and no netwrok connection. I have to disconnect the network adapter from virtual center and then reconnect it so that the network conectivity starts to work again. It does not have this problem if i reboot the server, it happens only when i power it off and power it back on again. Any ideas why and how to fix it? I am kinda stumped at the moment.

Firstly, do you have the vmtools loaded inside the virtual machine?

Try changing the connection to a different vSwitch, if you have one.

Yes, vmtools is installed. I have reinstall it but the problem is still there.

Sounds like corrupt vHW. Try re-registering the vm - if that doesn't work try deleting the vm (keeping the vmdk's) and then create a new vm using the original vmdk's as the disk.

I have tried deleting the vm and create the vm using the old vmdk file as well. The problem is still there. I have tried uninstalling the driver and then remove the hardware. Then i did install the hardware and reinstall vmtools and the vmxnet driver back. The problem still persist? any more ideas or it is a lost cause?

Is this a Windows or *nix VM? If Windows, by chance did you reghack it to disable the network media sense detection mechanism?

The problem appears to follow your VM around. That to me tells me it's an issue with the encapsulated OS. Another great test to prove or disprove it's an issue with your particual host is to migrate the VM to another host and see if the problem persists.

No, i didn't do any reghack. I have migrated the vm to another host and the problem disappear. I find it strange tho as there are other vm's running on the same host but they all working fine.
