Virtual SMP-Unable to power on a VM with 2 vCPU ESX 3.0.2

Hi all,

after conversion from physical, at first start up the following message appears: "Error Virtual machine has 2 virtual CPUs, but the host software only supports 1. Please check the license on the host."

Leaving 1 CPU the VM starts.

How can be adrressed this issue?

Many thanks to all

D.

Have you tried release the esx license, then adding the license back.

It might be that the Guest OS is only supported for 1 CPU, e.g. NT or NetWare.

The guest OS is Windows 2003.

And when you edit the settings of the VM and click on Options then check the OS, it is correct.

In the past I belive the workaround was to startup a single CPU vm and then start the SMP VM's. (if there were no other VM's running)
