Virtual Machine not powering

I have an ESX 3.1 server running 6 Virtual Servers.

When I try and power on one of the VM's I get the following error:

"Error encountered trying to restore CPU state from file"

Can anyone help? Is there a way to get around this or will I have to rebuild?

Was this VM suspended?

If yes - remove / rename the vmss file and edit the VMX file and remove the line starting with

checkpoint.vmState
