Virtual Machine network issue.

Hi All,

One of a VM having intermittent network problem where from time to time it will lost the network connectivity. As for now, the only way to recover this is by disconnect and reconnect back the network at the VM setting. Other VM's on the same vSwitch did not faced this problem.

VM is running 2K3 and just been P2V.

Any comments?

Are the VMware Tools installed inside the guest?

Is the "Connected" field still tagged when the problem occurs?

Can the guest communicate to other virtual guests on the same vSwitch while the problem is present?

Hi ...

ESX = 3.5U5

VM OS = Windows 2003

VMware tools = Up to date.

Only impact that VM. Others on the same vSwitch had no problem. During problem, it has lost all communcation even to VM on the same vSwitch and only way to recover this is by untick and tick back the 'connected' option.

Hi,

You mentioned this was a P2V. Have you removed the old network card which may still be in device manager as a hidden device?

On the VM try the following:

Click Start, click Run, type cmd.exe, and then press ENTER.

Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1, and then press ENTER.

Type Start DEVMGMT.MSC, and then press ENTER.

Click View, and then click Show Hidden Devices.

Expand the Network Adapters tree.

Right-click the dimmed network adapter, and then click Uninstall.

I'm not certain if this is causing your issue, but it's worth trying.
