VSMFI0 failed after installting an HBA adapter
Our configuration
DL380 G5 with ESX 3.5 u2
First we have installed ESX 3.5 u2 on a DL380 G5 and all works fine
We installed a HBA adaptor Qlogic QLA2340 and after we reboot, we received and error message about vswif0 failed.
We replaced the HBA Adaptor by an Emulex LPE1150 and we received the same error message.
Do you have some hints to help me?
Hello,
Most likely it is an IRQ issue. HOwever, I would install the qlogic then using the console fix the vSwif0 device by removing it and then adding it back in. Once you do that you will most likely need to fix any other network devices/vSwitch connections.
The other option is to install the HBA then reinstall the host.

hi, once you have booted the esx server, try giving:
cat /proc/vmware/interrupts
you might be able to see the qlogic and vmnic0 in a same interrupt place.
If tat is the case, then you may need to change the interrupt of the qlogic card in the qlogic bios or you can change the slot in which you have inserted the qlogic card
Thanks,
Selva
Hi SelvaMK,
I check the /proc/vmware/interrupts and we don't have de IRQ for the HBA and the network adapter, It's seem strange. We decide to reinstall the ESX server, probably at the beginning of the next week.
Thank you for your help
